Hopi Ear Candles

What is Hopi Ear Candling & How does it work?

Hopi ear candling, otherwise known as thermal auricular therapy is a treatment that was introduced into the modern world by a Native American Indian tribe, known as the Hopi (peaceful people).

It is a non-invasive and pleasant ear treatment, which can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. It involves the use of a special candle, lighted on one end to induce heat into the ears and the head, which relieves, soothes and relaxes.

It is very useful in times of stress and has been handed down generation after generation. Some of the civilizations that used this method include ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Sumerians. Ancient wall paintings showed that they were used in healing and traditional rituals.

In the modern world, the candles are still made on the basis of those formed back in the day. The ingredients used are; sage, beeswax, St. John ‘s wort, and chamomile.

The only tool that is used for this process is the specially designed hollow candle. The practitioner will ask the client to lie down straight on one side. Carefully and gently, he will insert the candle into the opening of one ear, then light the other end. On doing this, the essential oils that are in the candle will be infused into the ear.

A temporary vacuum will be created inside the candle, drawing out all the loose matter into the candle, including ear wax. As the candle burns, you will hear a pleasant and soft crackling sound, and a warm feeling as the candle reduces.

On completion, there will be a waxy substance on the end that was inserted in the ear. If one has compacted ear wax, it becomes loose during the treatment and the person will find a minor discharge, oozing from the ear.

The treatment is generally gentle and feels completely warming, relaxing, and soothing. On top of the crackling sound, you will also hear a wave-like sound. Most people find themselves dozing off as it takes around forty-five minutes.

Once both ears have been treated you will be left to unwind for a couple of minutes before receiving a relaxing face massage to culminate the therapy and leave you soothed and carefree.
